Flow equivalent tree

SPRING LAKE -- When it comes to getting rid of diseased and damaged trees, Spring Lake Village officials have their work cut out for them.
A recent inventory and inspection of trees lining village right-of-way has identified up to 77 trees on 33 different village streets that should be removed over the next six to 10 years. The inspection was conducted by Chris Lautenbach, a certified arborist with West Michigan Tree Service of Grand Rapids.
'We found a number of trees to be in failing health,' Lautenbach wrote in his report

Tree plantation vital to end environmental pollution
ISLAMABAD: Tree plantation is essential to wipe out growing environmental pollution and meet energy and wood requirements, said Allama Iqbal Open University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Mehmoodul Hassan Butt while inaugurating monsoon tree plantation campaign on the university premises on Monday.
He urged people to fully participate in the campaign and preserve trees and plants. The VC said the tree plantation campaign was being launched twice a year and had become an official activity. He also stressed the need for acknowledging the value of tree plantation in ones life.
Despite planting millions of saplings twice a year, the number of trees during the last many years has been counted the same, he pointed out.
Dr Butt said that unawareness among masses was the main reason for less number of trees. He stressed the need for preserving trees at national level. All the university teachers, officers and employees attended the ceremony. app

BERKELEY University officials say people living and sleeping in the wide street median outside the UC Berkeley tree-sit are creating a messy, dangerous and noisy situation with their tents, litter and drumming circles.
But the people in the tents who act as ground support for a handful of people still living in a university oak grove say their small encampment is there to protect the grove, help those still perched in the trees and keep a watchful eye on university police, who they've sparred with in the past.
'It's dangerous. We are getting complaints from people who work in that area (on Piedmont Avenue),' said University of California, Berkeley spokesman Dan Mogulof

If the emerald ash borer were a movie, the music would be getting more ominous.
The transplanted Asian beetle that's killed tens of millions of ash trees has been discovered in Wisconsin for the first time, raising fears that Minnesota could be next in line.
The discovery was made in a grove of dying ash trees in Ozaukee County, north of Milwaukee. 'Today's the day we hoped would never arrive but we knew it inevitably would,' said Brian Kuhn of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
Emerald ash borers were first found in the Detroit area in 2002

Tree-killing beetle arrives in Wisconsin
Emerald ash borer found in Ozaukee County woodlot

Anita Weier - 8/04/2008 2:50 pm
The dreaded emerald ash borer has arrived in Wisconsin, state officials announced Monday.
State officials have been searching for months for the beetle, in order to act quickly against its spread. It is non-native to the United States and has killed about 25 million ash trees in at least seven states since arriving in the U.S. in 2002.
The wood-boring beetle was found by forest health specialists investigating a citizen report of dying ash trees in a private woodlot in Ozaukee County, near the village of Newburg.
'We expected to find the emerald ash borer in Wisconsin sooner or later, but this is still disappointing,' said Rod Nilsestuen, state secretary of agriculture, during an announcement at Riveredge Nature Center in Newburg.
The first invading ash borer in the United States was found near Detroit, and officials speculated that it may have arrived in wooden packing materials from Asia, its natural home
