Tree plantation vital to end environmental pollution
ISLAMABAD: Tree plantation is essential to wipe out growing environmental pollution and meet energy and wood requirements, said Allama Iqbal Open University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Mehmoodul Hassan Butt while inaugurating monsoon tree plantation campaign on the university premises on Monday.
He urged people to fully participate in the campaign and preserve trees and plants. The VC said the tree plantation campaign was being launched twice a year and had become an official activity. He also stressed the need for acknowledging the value of tree plantation in ones life.
Despite planting millions of saplings twice a year, the number of trees during the last many years has been counted the same, he pointed out.
Dr Butt said that unawareness among masses was the main reason for less number of trees. He stressed the need for preserving trees at national level. All the university teachers, officers and employees attended the ceremony. app
